The short version: Remember When has no servers. There is no account to create, no analytics, and no tracking of how you use the app. Your memories are stored on your device and in your own iCloud account.
There are no ads and no tracking of any kind. We — the people who make this app — cannot see your memories, your recordings, your contacts, or who you tag. The only time we receive anything from you is if you choose to email us a report or a support question.
Remember When is developed by Corin Winikoff ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with information when you use it. If you have questions about anything here, email corinlovesmath@gmail.com.
This matters more than anything else in this document, so it comes first.
Remember When has no backend of any kind. There is no database we run, no account system, no login, and no place where your content is collected and stored by us. The app contains no analytics software, no crash-reporting service, and no third-party tracking libraries.
Everything the app stores lives in two places: on your device, and — when you use sharing or backup — in your own Apple iCloud account, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy and accessible only to you and the people you deliberately share with.

Used only while you are actively recording a memory. Recordings are written straight to your device's storage. The app does not record in the background and does not access the camera or microphone at any other time.
Used only when you choose to pick an existing video instead of recording a new one. The app reads the single video you select. It does not browse, index, or upload your photo library.
Used so you can pick people to tag by name instead of typing addresses. Your contacts are read on your device and are not uploaded anywhere.
Only when you actually tag someone does the app use that specific person's email address or phone number — and only to ask Apple's iCloud sharing service to identify their account so it can grant them access to that memory. Contacts you never tag are never used or stored. The name, and the email or phone you tagged with, are saved on your device so you can tag the same person again easily.
Used to transcribe your recordings so you can search them by what was said. This runs entirely on your device. The app explicitly requires on-device recognition and will not fall back to sending audio to Apple's servers — if on-device transcription isn't available for your language, the feature simply doesn't run.
If you've turned on Apple's Sensitive Content Warning (Settings › Privacy & Security), videos other people share with you are checked for nudity using Apple's on-device analysis before they play, and covered with a warning if flagged. This happens entirely on your device — nothing is sent to Apple or to us — and your own recordings are never checked.
Used only for the optional daily prompt reminder. The reminder text is generated on your device. You can turn this off in Settings at any time.
Memories are private by default. A memory becomes visible to another person only when you tag them, and only to the specific people you tag. There is no public feed, no discovery, no follower system, and no way for a stranger to find your memories.
Sharing is handled by Apple's iCloud sharing (CloudKit). When you tag someone, Apple grants that person's iCloud account access to that memory and its comments. People you tag can see the memory's recording, its text, and the comments on it — including comments written by other people you tagged.
We have no ability to view, moderate, or remove content inside a shared memory, because we have no access to it.
You can block any person whose memory or comment you can see, and you can report content to us by email.
Blocking works on your device: the blocked person's memories and comments are removed from your device, and nothing from them will reach you again. Because we do not operate a server, blocking cannot delete content from anyone else's device.
Reporting asks what's wrong, hides that memory or comment from you straight away, and opens your email app with a pre-filled message. If you choose to send it, we receive whatever that email contains — which may include the title of a memory, the name shown for its author, and the text of a reported comment. This is the only circumstance in which your content reaches us. We use these reports solely to investigate the report and to decide whether to take action, and we keep them only as long as needed for that purpose.
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or handle your payment details. The app asks Apple only whether an active subscription exists for your Apple ID.
The app includes Settings › Delete my account. Using it:
This cannot be undone. It does not sign you out of iCloud itself, and it does not affect anything outside this app.
You can also delete an individual memory at any time from that memory.
Remember When is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Because the app has no accounts and no server, we have no means of identifying a user's age. If you believe a child has been tagged in content that shouldn't exist, email us at corinlovesmath@gmail.com.
Privacy laws in some regions — including the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California — give you rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to know whether it is sold.
In this app those rights are mostly satisfied directly: your information is in your possession, on your device and in your own iCloud account. You can view all of it in the app, edit it, and delete it at any time. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we have no user database to search on your behalf.
The exception is any email you have voluntarily sent us. To ask what we hold from that correspondence, or to have it deleted, email corinlovesmath@gmail.com.
Content stored on your device is protected by your device's own encryption and passcode. Content synced or shared through iCloud is protected by Apple's infrastructure and your Apple ID. Because we hold no copy of your content, there is no server of ours that could be breached to expose it.
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, note it in the app. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
